Back in July 1984, (yikes) opening weekend of the movie, Purple Rain - I was in the audience at the Patchogue theater. Me and about 900 women. A multi ethnic, multi racial, crowd of Prince lovers.
The movie started and the entire room swooned. As if Prince himself were in the building. Cheering , clapping, singing, dancing.
THEN, the Kid (Prince) returns home and his dad (Clarence Williams III) in a rage smacks Prince and sends him across the room!!!!!!!!
The audience EXPLODED! A girl behind me shrieked "Ahhhhhhh, HE hit Prince! Prince, he's so
pretty!!."
Prince, he's so pretty.
